This paper aims to highlight the concept of Italianità through the works of Hermes Balducci, one of the protagonists of Italian colonial architecture in the Dodecanese Islands.Hermes Balducci arrived at the Istituto Storico-Archeologico FERT in Rhodes as a fellow in 1930, appointed by the local Italian institutions to work on the archaeological and architectural heritage.From 1912 to 1943 these islands experienced Italy’s ambiguous presence as invaders and colonizers. This paper aims to highlight the concept of Italianità through the works of Hermes .Hermes Balducci, an engineer commissioned to assist with archaeological heritage, came to Rhodes and, between 1930 and 1934, surveyed the monuments of Islamic and Ottoman .

His university education follows a precise path aimed at obtaining a vast .In the period between 1930 and 1934, Hermes Balducci travelled to the Dodecanese Islands several times, entrusted by the local Italian archaeological institution with working on the heritage. He went to Rhodes, Coo and Samo to survey and document the traces of the previous ciyilizations and cultures.
