The Rolex 1520 is an automatic mechanical watch movement that features sweep seconds and operates at a beat rate of 19800 vibrations per hour (vph). The Rolex 1520 features the following functions: Automatic Winding. Sweep Seconds. The 1530 was phased out by Rolex for the 1520 with a stick regulator, rather than Microstella that had been in the 1530. Breguet overcoil was replaced by a flat hairspring, and it was originally released as a 17-jewel movement for global shipments. Only later, in 1980, did 25 and 26-jewel versions enter the production. The 1520 is generally excellent. You see it in newer 5513's as well. It was the replacement for the slow beat 1530 non chronometer grade. It's not the grade of movement that a 1570 is.but they run and time through the positions very well and the hardware is identical.all of the plates are the same as a 1570 and all of the wheels etc.

I agree with Adrian in that the original 1520 bushings, if replaced with jeweled bushings will lengthen both the life expectancy as well as the reliability of a caliber 1520 movement. In general.. I have the opportunity to see/service many 1520 movements and would not be concerned with handling them any different than the other 1500 calibers.
