A stone’s throw from the Jardin Majorelle, acquired by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé in 1980, the new building will cover 4,000 m², featuring a 400 m² permanent exhibition space, designed by Christophe Martin, showcasing the fashion work of Yves Saint Laurent. French architecture firm Studio KO has completed the Yves Saint Laurent museum with a textured brickwork in Marrakech, Morocco, which is the first fashion museum in Africa dedicated to the work and life of French fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent.

Following in the footsteps of Yves Saint Laurent, architecture duo Studio KO conjures a temple to the fashion designer’s legacy in his cherished Marrakech. Studio KO founders Karl Fournier.Similar to the designer’s neat and world renowned logo, YSL, Studio Ko, in which life and work of Yves Saint Laurent are impressively exhibited, displays simply and clearly the dichotomy of curves and lines.Studio KO works with materials as one might play with words, reinterpreting their traditional roles. Like rhymes, melodic oppositions, anagrams or rebus, Studio KO rephrases the literal senses of line, texture and form to create a unique experience.
A new home for the collections of the Fondation Pierre Bergé–Yves Saint Laurent had no choice but to keep the sun at bay: exhibition galleries, conservation areas, and auditoriums are opaque by necessity.
