I am considering a 41mm Submariner to add to my collection and have always been quite fond . I was going to buy a Sub Date, but when I saw a No date at the AD, I really had . I've gone back and forth on this for years and the way I've settled it is: Black sub = .
This included seven new versions of the popular Submariner Date (e.g. green bezel 126610LV etc.), as well as one "No-Date" Submariner, the Ref. 124060. Rolex Submariner: Date or No Date - The Ultimate Question. Here is an interesting comparison of the two versions (with some really good shots).

When I got my first Rolex, a Submariner Date, I wore it non-stop for 5 years and so the date hassle wasn't an issue. I like the fact that the Cyclops is there as it looks very iconic and classic. Props for the Date version.Only 1 out of every 5 steel Submariner's that Rolex produces are the No Date variety, making it more rare, unique, and therefore of greater interest to Rolex enthusiasts. E. Heritage. The original Submariner from 1954 to 1970 was only available without the Date feature. If you have another Rolex with date then I would get a no date. If however you don’t have a Rolex and this will be your only one I’d get a date. This way you have a bit of variety in the collection.
If you think you'd be OK without one and/or you rotate through more than one watch, no date is probably better for symmetry and convenience. I rotate through a few but I like having the date so I got the date.
